Project: The White Wedding Dress

The highly anticipated world premiere of The White Wedding Dress: 200 years of Wedding Fashion officially opened at the Bendigo Art Gallery on August 1 this year.

Studio Round worked closely with Bendigo Art Gallery to develop an identity for the exhibition inspired by the fine lace work that adorns many of the dresses on display.

Making use of a lacework logo, bespoke wordmark and strong purple the greatest challenge was to communicate the event with a pronounced and vivid identifying brand using the delicate and intricate material appropriate to the show.

Project: Identity

Bendigo Art Gallery (BAG) is the largest regional gallery in Australia. Its historic building was refurbished in the late 1990's and the gallery adopted sophisticated museum control and security systems and embarked
on a period of rapidly acquiring
a significant contemporary art collection.

In 2004 we were approached to help
the gallery modernise their identity and broaden their appeal to younger audiences. We developed a distinctive 'B' logo that draws inspiration from stacked picture frames and references the old and new architectural aspects

of the gallery. As part of the new identity system, the colour palette
we devised allows flexibility for
use with many different artworks and helps broaden the gallery’s appeal.

BAG is now able to attract
major travelling exhibitions from international galleries, and their annual visitation figures have
almost doubled from 59,304 in 2004
to 111,263 in 2008.

Project: Golden Age of Couture

From the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, The Bendigo Art Gallery's Golden Age of Couture exhibition explores one of the most glamorous and remarkable decades in fashion history. Starting with the impact of Christian Dior's new look after the Second World War, the exhibition explores the work of Dior and his contemporaries during the height of haute couture.

Our identity design for the exhibition is intended to evoke feelings of the glamour and style of the era. If the general public were not familiar with the designers or garments they would still have an instantly recognisable feeling of couture and elegance.
The hand-drawn dresses are a way of continuing the story of the identity, while the title was made of many lights, which is synonymous with
the glamour of the era.

Project: The Long Weekend

In 2007 the Gallery's most significant exhibition, The Long Weekend, examined the social and art historical trend
of Australian artists immigrating to France in the period between the two World Wars.

Our response was to create a visual language around the communication devices used by the artists to correspond with each other and those they left behind in Australia.
