Nestled in the foothills of Adelaide, Magill Estate is what Penfolds refer to as their “spiritual home” and for good reason. These palatial grounds are where Dr. Christopher Rawson and his wife, Mary Penfold first set up shop in 1884. It is the home of Grange, named after a cottage that still stands amongst the vines to this day.
Commissioned to create an identity for the new Magill Estate Restaurant, Round worked alongside interior architect, Pascale Gomes-McNabb, to conceptulise a refined, elegant visual identity.

Echoing the restaurant’s modern architectural style and the natural attributes of its Adelaide foothills location, we created a down-to-earth expression of luxury, by pairing mottled book cloth with bronze gilding across the collateral. The outcome was an appearance that felt and looked luxurious, but that was emblematic of its natural and historic surrounds.
A year later the restaurant was recognised as one of the Top 10 restaurants in Australia at the Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Awards with co-head chefs, Scott Huggins and Emma McCaskill, receiving ‘Best New Talent’ at the same ceremony. The interior design, created by long-time Round collaborator, Pascale Gomes- McNabb, also picked up Best Restaurant Design for Australia and the Pacific at the 2014 Restaurant and Bar Design Awards, held in London.
